What is CELPIP?
CELPIP — the Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program — is a general English test that measures how well you use everyday English across four skills: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. It is fully computer-delivered, finished in one sitting, and its results are officially accepted for immigration to Canada and Australia. CELPIP in one paragraph
CELPIP is designed and administered by Paragon Testing Enterprises, which began as a subsidiary of the University of British Columbia (UBC). Because it was created in Canada and aligned to the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB), it tests the kind of English people actually use at work and in daily life — reading a notice, listening to a conversation, writing an email, or responding to a situation out loud. It is a general proficiency test (not academic), and it reports a separate level for each of the four skills.
The two versions of CELPIP
There are two official versions. Which one you take depends on what you are applying for.

Most immigration applicants take the full CELPIP-General. The shorter CELPIP-General LS is the version IRCC designates for Canadian citizenship.
The CELPIP test format
The full CELPIP-General is computer-delivered and takes about three hours in one sitting — there is no separate appointment or interview for Speaking. The four components run back to back:

How CELPIP is scored: the CLB link
Each skill is reported as a CELPIP level (from M and 1 up to 12). The key thing to know is that CELPIP levels map one-to-one to the Canadian Language Benchmarks: a CELPIP 7 is CLB 7, a CELPIP 9 is CLB 9, with no separate per-skill conversion needed. Who officially accepts CELPIP?
CELPIP is accepted by two national governments for immigration, plus a range of professional bodies:
